This award will be given to the AD plant manager who has demonstrated an exceptional ability to run an AD plant and overcome any barriers to success in the past 12 months. The nominee can be the plant manager or overall person in charge of any size plant, fed with any feedstock as long as the plant’s primary function is anaerobic digestion.

As a nominee you will be judged by reference to the following information:

  • A summary of how the nominated individual has demonstrated that their personal day-to-day management of an AD plant has delivered exceptional results or overcome significant operational challenges, quantifying if at all possible the results or improvement.
  • Any relevant data or information to support this.
  • Any technical, biological, human resources or other operational difficulties or challenges the individual addressed and helped to overcome.
  • Two testimonials outlining why the individual should win this award.

Who should enter?

Any AD plant manager who has demonstrated an exceptional running of an AD plant of any size. You can nominate either an individual in your own business or in another organisation.

Rules for entry

  • Entries open to individuals from the UK and abroad.
  • Entries should be no longer than 1000 words and no longer than 4 x A4 pages of supporting information.
  • Two testimonials supporting the entry.

This award will be given to the best food and drink industry AD project of any size.

This award will be judged by reference to the following information:

  • Summary of the AD project including an outline of the food and drink business, the feedstock, outputs, and main technologies used as well as the objectives and the criteria for success.
  • Details on how the plant makes the most of its feedstock, biogas and digestate and if appropriate the benefits delivered to the food and drink business with supporting information.
  • How the project has maximised the value of the waste and demonstrated efficiency, carbon and cost savings within the project and/or the business.
  • Any challenges or issues faced in project delivery and how they were overcome.
  • The benefits the project has delivered for the food and drink business, with particular emphasis on financial and environmental benefits. Please include relevant before and after data/information.
  • Why the plant is better than other comparable AD plants.

AD designers/builders/developers/operators, technology and equipment suppliers, food and drink businesses, waste management companies, consultants.

  • Entries open to UK companies only.
  • Entries should be no longer than 1500 words and no longer than 4 x A4 pages of supporting information.

This award will be given to the best on-farm AD plant of any size.

This award will be judged by reference to the following information:

  • Summary of the project including design capacity, feedstock, outputs, main technologies used, outline of the farming business or businesses, and the objectives and criteria for success.
  • Key performance indicators including:
    • Tonnage processed in 2017
    • Energy outputs (m3 biogas and biogas utilisation) – including a copy of the Environment Agency annual report which includes these figures if appropriate
    • Digestate utilisation and quantities
    • Indication of any permit breaches
  • How the project has achieved the objectives outlined above.
  • Any challenges/issues faced in project delivery and how they were overcome.
  • The benefits the project has delivered for the farming business and environment, with particular emphasis on financial, environmental and biodiversity benefits. Please include relevant before and after data/information.
  • Any evidence on how the AD plant has helped the farm to become more climate smart, for example reducing GHG emissions, generating renewable energy, recycling nutrients/organic matter, reducing chemical inputs.
  • Why this plant is better than other on-farm AD plants.

Farmers (including combines and joint ventures), land managers, developers, operators, equipment suppliers, digestate treatment companies, seed manufacturers and consultants.

This award will be given to the best merchant waste AD plant. Plants taking waste from any source are eligible, including those co-digesting waste with other materials.

This award will be judged by reference to the following information:

  • A summary of the AD plant including the feedstock, outputs and the main technologies used as well as the objectives and criteria for success.
  • Key performance indicators including:
    • Tonnage processed in 2017
    • Energy outputs (m3 biogas and biogas utilisation) – including a copy of the Environment Agency annual report which includes these figures if appropriate
    • Digestate utilisation and quantities
    • Indication of any permit breaches
  • Details about how the plant makes the most of its feedstock, biogas and digestate and if appropriate the benefits delivered to the business with supporting data/information.
  • Details of feedstock, digester efficiency, and how this project efficiently utilises the digester products, with supporting data/information.
  • Details of any specific challenges overcome in the development of the plant.
  • Why the plant is better than other merchant waste AD plants.
