Our mission is to ensure we can live on this planet sustainably – but in order to achieve this, we need to effect change much faster than we are now. Focusing exclusively on industries that will help meet this objective, notably anaerobic digestion, biogas and cleantech, we provide management support to organisations that drive those game-changing sectors forward. 

We assist our clients in communicating their sector’s value, winning government support, accessing new markets, attracting investment and amplifying their R&D programmes. We offer strategic advice, a full range of management services (policy, membership, events, publications, and finance) and practical support to enable our partners to be as effective as possible.

Our current clients are the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) and the World Biogas Association (WBA).  Additionally, We Are Orchard manages the annual cleantech investment event Cleantech Innovate.

Who we are looking FOR?

We are looking for a front facing Technical Support Manager to work primarily for one of the two associations that we currently manage, ADBA, to engage with our existing and potential new operator members to provide technical support to them, both to help them improve performance and to ensure a high level of member recruitment, retention and loyalty. ADBA specifically wants to facilitate a high performing operating industry and has developed the AD Certification Scheme (ADCS) to this end. It now wants to encourage and assist operators to take better advantage of ADBA’s membership services, including the scheme and other ADBA support programmes such as the Best Practice Guidance and training to improve the performance of their plants, increase their financial returns, reduce EA and other regulation and encourage further government support and investment in the industry. We are therefore looking for a well-respected, experienced AD operator who has the experience to engage with operators to support them, assist them to join the ADCS, take advantage of ADBA’s services and thus improve the performance of the industry overall. This role will require a proactive individual who is comfortable working both in an office environment and autonomously when away from home.

What will I be doing?

Meeting and engaging with AD operators throughout the UK to ensure a clear understanding of issues affecting them, and feed back into the association
Working closely with the accrediting body, supporting operators to understand the ADCS, how to apply and assisting them through the process
Engaging with regulators to encourage their support of the ADCS, and how this can reduce their involvement
Reviewing and clarifying the value proposition for ADBA membership for operators, developing and putting forward proposals if appropriate to offer new services that will address those issues, ensure there is a clear return on investment for operator members from their membership
Understanding the Biomethane Certification Scheme, and where this may support operators to increase their revenue
Develop and implement an effective membership engagement plan for operators that maximizes member retention and provides best service and value to members
Supporting the sales team to develop and implement a membership recruitment plan for operators to meet sales targets, build a pipeline and:

  • attract new operator members to the association
  • encourage operators to join the ADCS and, where appropriate, the Biomethane Certification Scheme

Work with marketing staff to add appropriate marketing inputs & support
Feed into the development of, and participate in, member-only events for operators and ensure they are delivering what operators currently need
Represent the association at both internal and external events
Ensure effective representation of the Association


What will I need?

An essential interest in sustainability, plus:

  • A belief in our mission and the will & drive to make a difference
  • Excellent AD operational experience, including training and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of operational management systems/certification schemes
  • Experience working with the Environment Agency, HSE, Animal Health and other regulators
  • Ability to quickly understand and absorb industry developments and how they will affect members
  • An understanding of the policies that drive the UK & European AD industry
  • Target- and results- driven work ethic
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written) when interacting with senior executives and AD plant managers
  • Ability to maintain high standards of customer service and swift delivery
  • Excellent IT and organisational skills
  • Team player, enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Ability to multi-task, take the initiative and develop own ideas
  • Prepared to travel, both in the UK and abroad
