Malmberg builds on UK market

ADBA MEMBER NEWS

Swedish clean-tech company and ADBA member Malmberg recently received another order for a biogas upgrading plant. The plant is their third in the UK and will produce up to 1,500 cubic meters per hour of 98% pure biomethane.

Shortly after being contracted for the upgrading plant at Howdon, Malmberg was awarded another contract at a wastewater site. The new project with Wessex Water Enterprises at Avonmouth sewage treatment works will be Malmberg’s third plant in the UK.

The plant is a Malmberg COMPACT® GR 20 that will refine up to 2,500 m3/h of raw biogas from the existing AD-plant. The feed material for the AD-plant is sludge from the sewage treatment works.

Malmberg has kept all functions in house, which has proved to be a highly value-adding concept. Everything from processing and design to manufacturing is carried out in the company’s workshop in the south of Sweden before Malmberg’s staff installs and commissions the plant on site.

Taino Bendz, Sales Biogas, Malmberg Water, said:

Delivery time was one of the key factors in this project. We have worked hard to establish an efficient supply chain where we have total control ourselves and can meet the customers’ requirements. Malmberg is also the only supplier that can show a track record for over 80 plants over 15 years on a global market together with excellent financial stability.

Apart from the upgrading unit, Malmberg will supply an odour control unit and a filter to reduce siloxanes and VOCs in the biomethane.

Maintenance at the plant will be carried out together with Malmberg’s certified service partner CooperOstlund, a UK based company from Northampton. Included in the service agreement is a 24/7 hour help desk, online monitoring and access to Malmberg’s stock.

Although Malmberg’s contracts in the UK have up to now been only together with waste water companies, Malmberg projects a bright future for gas-to-grid projects at other sites, such as on-farm plants.
