Funding opportunity from TSB with NERC

Looking to make the most of the large and historic sets of environmental data currently held by many UK institutions the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) have set aside £3 million for a new funding call: solving business problems with environmental data.

It is thought that this data may have potential applications in the private sector – both nationally and internationally – by helping to identify risks and opportunities. The call aims to support the development of new businesses providing solutions and services by handling data sets in an innovative and more effective way.

To be successful proposals should address a specific business issue from one of the following areas:

  • Energy
  • Transport
  • Built environment
  • Agriculture and food
  • Financial services

Successful applications will receive funding for feasibility studies to establish whether there is a market for the environmental data-led solutions

The competition will open on 30 September 2013 and closes on 13 November, for further information please visit the ESKTN website. Regional roadshow events have been organised to help those interested understand the ‘nature and spirit of the call, its intentions and its timescales’ – the only roadshow with availability remaining is in Glasgow on the 18 September.

There will also be a webinar on the 8 October – if you would like to register for this please click here.
