Funding pledge for AD highlights importance of local business engagement

Last week we reported on Labour’s support for domestic green gas generation in the UK.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer set out the Conservative Party’s long term economic plan for the south-west, which included a pledge to:

support tech clusters, green energy, promoting skills development and an innovative rural economy

As part of that plan, funding has been prioritised to include £9.4m to support agriculture through diverse projects, including a £1.4m grant for on-farm AD which could serve as heat distribution networks or energy storage in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Whilst the funding pledge only represents a drop in the ocean when it comes to the broader financial uncertainties facing the industry, it is important to note that this commitment came about as a result of commercial priorities outlined by the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

In addition to the importance of engaging with your local MP, regardless of the outcome from May’s General Election, it is essential for members whose site or company falls within an LEP zone to encourage a greater recognition for AD as a commercial priority. For further information on whether there is an Enterprise Zone in your area, please visit this website.
