Dutch biogas upgrading contract for Greenlane Biogas 

The project will produce enough green gas annually for a town of 10,000 residents

A biogas upgrading system to be supplied and installed by Greenlane Biogas will produce 6.9 million cubic metres of biomethane annually for injection into the local gas grid in the Lingewaard municipality, near Arnhem in the eastern Netherlands.

The contract forms part of a project known as Groen Gas Gelderland (GGG) and has been awarded to Greenlane Biogas by a co-operative venture between Holding BEB BV, Engie Biogas Holding BV and Biogas Plus BV.

A Greenlane ‘Totara’ upgrading unit will upgrade biogas produced from 72,000 tonnes per year of wastes collected from an extensive farming area – mostly manures, high-energy crops and grass.

As well as the main upgrading system, Greenlane will also supply and install a nitrogen generator to reduce the calorific value of the output gas to conform to Dutch grid requirements. Sufficient nitrogen will be produced to match the biomethane output of the main plant, even when it is running at maximum capacity. A biofilter will also ensure all volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have been eliminated which might otherwise affect the odour of the output gas.

Greenlane Biogas is the world’s largest manufacturer of biogas upgrading systems with nearly 30 years experience in the sector. Among more than 100 operating systems worldwide, there are several in Holland which have a proven track record over a number of years.

GGG says the project will contribute substantially to the sustainability goals of the province of Gelderland and estimates that the annual reduction of CO2 due to this venture will be equivalent to that of 650,000 trees.

Greenlane is due to install and commission the system by Autumn this year.
