MEMBER’S PRESS RELEASE: Green Light For The East Midlands Biogas Centre To Go Greener!

Bio Dynamic has just received approval to TREBLE their capacity of food waste to 150,000 tonnes a year. The site in Colwick in Nottingham will become the second largest food waste anaerobic digester in the country, once it’s fully developed. The planning application was approved by Nottinghamshire County Council this week (Tuesday 24th March).

The East Midlands Biogas Centre has current capacity to convert about 50,000 tonnes of food waste per annum through Anaerobic Digestion. The electricity produced by the plant is sufficient to provide energy for around 7,500 houses, and this latest approval means future development should power more than 20,000 homes.

Technical Director, Gary Burgess says:

This decision puts The East Midlands Biogas Centre firmly on the map. Our team has a passion for recycling and green energy production and is one of the few independently run companies in this industry. The County Council’s forward thinking vision to see the benefits will allow for a greener and more sustainable future for the county and the region. We will continue to work with local councils in our area to encourage source segregated food waste collections which can be treated by us locally.
