MEMBER’S PRESS RELEASE: Purac Puregas awarded Denmark’s largest biogas upgrading project

Kalmar-based Purac Puregas AB today announced the placement of a further contract to supply a CApure biogas upgrading plant.

The plant in Vojens Denmark will upgrade up to 6000Nm3/h of raw biogas from the anaerobic digestion of agricultural waste to Danish gas grid specification, producing energy equivalent to the annual consumption of 10,000 vehicles. The biogas production plant will be built and owned in a 50-50 % joint-venture between E.ON and Sønderjysk Biogas Invest A/S.

Håkan Eriksson Project Manager, Sønderjysk Biogas Bevtoft A/S, said:

We’ve chosen Purac Puregas as supplier for the biogas upgrading plant, primarily because the integration of the plant is a key aspect of the heating system of the whole production plant, and adds to the overall total energy efficiency. Purac Puregas also has a well proven track record from previous projects with E.ON. Purac Puregas’ solution gave the best value when considering both investment and over 10 year’s operation.

The unique CApure process recovers over 99.9% of the biomethane present in the raw biogas, by chemically absorbing the CO2.. The selective organic solvents used in this process are highly efficient, resulting in an end product containing more than 99% methane. The biomethane is of high enough calorific value to be directly injected into the natural gas grid without the need to enrich with propane saving significant costs.

With more than 15 years of experience Purac Puregas provides fully integrated solutions for biogas upgrading and have over 20 plants already operating across Europe.
