MEMBER PRESS RELEASE – Introducing the new XSplit press screw separator from Vogelsang Qualification for the DAERA grant in Northern Ireland

Galway, Ireland, October 11, 2022 – Vogelsang GmbH & Co. KG has launched an innovative press screw separator. The XSplit separator is easy to maintain and enables a dry matter content of up to 40 percent for slurry and digestate processing.

It’s becoming increasingly important to our customers to fully utilise digestate and slurry in the best and most efficient ways – whether as fertiliser for plant cultivation, as bedding, for soil improvement or for power generation in biogas plants,” says Mark Hughes, Managing Director of Vogelsang Ireland.

New drive arrangement reduces maintenance costs
The XSplit helps farmers and biogas plant operators to separate digestate and slurry for further use optimally. Vogelsang has taken up the tried and tested method of solid-liquid separation of slurry and digestate using a press screw separator and optimised the technology behind it: the drive is located at the solids outlet and not, as is typical on the market, at the inflow of the raw medium. In contrast to conventional separators, liquid cannot get into the drive. This means a shaft seal is no longer required, which in turn reduces maintenance effort and costs. Vogelsang’s QuickService concept also enables direct access to the screen and press screw for quick service.

With a dry matter content of up to 40%, it is superior to other separators. Depending on the medium and consistency, different sieve variants can be used, thus guaranteeing extremely reliable separation results. The XSplit’s unique concept offers outstanding value for money, is low-maintenance and service-friendly and achieves a dry matter content of up to 40 percent in the solid–liquid separation of slurry and digestate.

The current political situation makes domestic biogas production even more important, because biogas is not only used for power and heat generation but can also replace fossil natural gas,” says Mr. Hughes. Furthermore: “In contrast to wind energy, the cost-intensive expansion of the transmission grid is not needed. If political parameters are rearranged to fit the new situation, biogas production can make an important contribution to the energy transition and support Ireland in becoming more independent of energy imports.

DAERA new grant to include separators
With the recent launch of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs’ (DAERA) agricultural farm improvement grant, slurry separators (including screw press systems) are now included as an eligible item for 40% grant support. This Farm Business Improvement Scheme makes the Vogelsang XSplit separator an ideal technology to optimise slurry management and future-proof farming businesses across Northern Ireland. The closing date for applications is November 11, 2022.

Vogelsang will be showcasing the new XSplit press screw separator at EnergyDecentral (Stand F18, Hall 25) on November 15–18, 2022, Hannover Messe. Vogelsang’s boots in hall 25 will feature systems and components from pumping, shredding and solids dosing technology that make biogas plants even more economical and thus future-proof.
