GGSS full

The Government’s Green Gas Support Scheme is key to incentivising growth in the sector, but its operational budget was filled for the foreseeable future on 12th June. This means that any project that has not reached the point of being given a tariff guarantee will not be issued with a tariff guarantee until the budget cap is raised.

Earlier this week ADBA wrote to the Secretary of State for Energy and requested that at the earliest opportunity this budget cap be raised by a suitable amount to allow projects to continue to be developed. We also highlighted the importance of biomethane injection – which GGSS supports – in energy security for the coming winter.

This is important because without an increase in the budget cap, all development will stall and any growth of renewable gas will be massively curtailed. This stop-start policy making rattles investors, puts obstacles in the way of building of UK supply chains, and slows sector growth.

We will increase the pressure on Government to raise the budget cap, and ask all our members to write to their MP and ask them to write to the Secretary of State for Energy asking the same.
