The process of farm-scale AD involves collecting slurry in a digester tank, where it is heated to facilitate the breakdown of the organic matter by bacteria. This process produces biogas, which can be used to generate electricity, heat, or fuel for vehicles. The remaining material, called digestate, is a nutrient-rich fertiliser that can be used on crops.
Farm-scale AD has a number of benefits, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing the need for expensive fossil fuels, and producing a valuable fertiliser. It can also help farmers manage waste and reduce odours associated with manure management.
