Overview

Bluemethane is developing technology to recover methane from water, as a new source of data, power and revenue. This will permanently remove methane from water, reduce global warming and support the energy transition by unlocking a new source of bioenergy. We are starting with wastewater treatment plants, and will scale to reservoirs, rice cultivation and ultimately, natural bodies of water.

Our vision is to extract the most methane from water using the least possible energy. Bluemethane has developed a novel route for the abatement of scope one emissions from water. Our technology improves operational efficiency of water treatment plants whilst remaining energy positive, by reducing carbon emissions and increasing biogas production.

Methane is responsible for nearly half of net global warming to date. It is 34 times more effective in trapping heat in our atmosphere than carbon dioxide. However, finance for methane emissions reduction accounts for less than 1% of international climate finance. The quickest way we can address climate change is by reducing methane emissions.
