Products & Services

Lancashire Renewables Ltd provides waste processing services on behalf of Lancashire County Council and Blackpool Council.

Overview

Lancashire Renewables Ltd was established to operate and manage two waste treatment facilities in Lancashire. The Company’s key objective is to receive, treat, and transport waste on behalf of Lancashire County Council and Blackpool Council.

Lancashire Renewables currently employs approximately 250 people. The Company’s two facilities in Thornton and Leyland operate 365 days a year. An internal fleet of 35 HGVs handles up to 500,000 tonnes of material annually, moving it into and out of the facilities and across the wider Lancashire County Council network.

The waste processed by the Company includes residual (“black bin bag”) waste and kerbside-collected recycling materials. From April 2026, this will expand to include source-separated household food waste. The Company plans to process this food waste at its Leyland site using anaerobic digestion to produce biogas. This biogas will then be used in gas engines to generate electricity. The anaerobic digestion process is expected to generate significant environmental and cost benefits for the Company, its Shareholders, and the people of Lancashire.
