AD and Biogas Industry Awards 2026 winners revealed

The winners of the AD and Biogas Industry Awards 2026 were announced at a prestigious ceremony held on 8 July at the Vox, Birmingham, hosted by the ever-entertaining Miles Jupp and Neil Bentley. Organised by the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) and the World Biogas Association (WBA), the awards recognise and celebrate excellence, innovation, and leadership across the global anaerobic digestion and biogas sector, highlighting the individuals, organisations, and projects driving the industry forward.

This year’s winners highlight the growing diversity and international reach of the sector, with successful entries from Africa, Asia, Europe and North America demonstrating the critical role of biogas in delivering renewable energy, circular economy solutions, emissions reductions and sustainable agricultural development.

The awards were presented during the World Biogas Expo and Summit, which welcomed industry leaders, innovators, policymakers and investors from around the world to explore the latest developments shaping the future of biogas and biomethane.

“Congratulations to all of our 2026 winners and finalists,” said Chris Huhne, Chair of ADBA. “The breadth and quality of this year’s entries demonstrate a sector that continues to innovate, expand and deliver solutions with real-world impact. The projects and individuals recognised through these awards show how biogas is contributing to energy security, decarbonisation, waste management and sustainable economic growth.”

Charlotte Morton OBE, Chief Executive of the World Biogas Association, added: “This year’s winners reflect the global momentum behind biogas and biomethane. From pioneering technologies and groundbreaking research to educational initiatives and outstanding operational performance, the achievements recognised through these awards demonstrate how our sector is helping address some of the world’s most pressing environmental and societal challenges.”

A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the WBA Strategic Leadership Award in the Global Biogas Sector to Dr Meenesh Shah, Chairman of National Diary Development Board (NDDB), India. Presented by Charlotte Morton OBE as a special commendation outside the main judging process, the award recognised Dr Shah’s exceptional leadership and contribution to the global biogas sector.

  • The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) is the trade association for the UK anaerobic digestion (AD) and biogas industry. ADBA’s vision is to see the full potential of the UK AD industry realised so it can help the UK achieve its emissions targets and other policy goals, creating a truly circular economy. www.adbioresources.org
  • Launched at COP22 in Marrakesh in 2016, the World Biogas Association (WBA) is the global trade association for the biogas, biomethane and anaerobic digestion sectors. WBA works with governments, industry and international organisations to accelerate the deployment of biogas solutions worldwide, supporting climate action, methane mitigation, renewable energy generation, and circular economic growth. Through its #MakingBiogasHappen programme, WBA is creating the conditions for sector growth through initiatives such as the Global Biogas Regulatory Framework (GBRF), which helps governments develop effective policy and regulatory environments, and ADCS International, the world’s first global certification scheme for biogas plants. Together, these initiatives advance the standards, certification systems, and best practices needed to support the safe, professional, and sustainable scaling of the sector worldwide. www.worldbiogasassociation.org
