ADBA Policy Lead joins Carbogenics podcast to discuss the future of anaerobic digestion
Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) member Carbogenics has recently released Episode 3 of its podcast series, Carbogenics: Biochar in Anaerobic Digestion (AD). Titled “Anaerobic Digestion: Policies, Challenges and Opportunities”, the episode features Dr Gareth Mottram, Policy Lead at ADBA, and explores the current state of the United Kingdom’s anaerobic digestion (AD) sector and what lies ahead for operators, policymakers and innovators.
Hosted by Carbogenics’ Chief Operating Officer Lidia Krzynowek, the episode brings together a panel of sector experts including Lucy Hopwood (Alder BioInsights) and Jenny Grant (Renewable Energy Association), alongside Dr Mottram. The conversation examines key issues shaping the sector, from policy and subsidy schemes to carbon accounting and investment readiness.
Topics discussed include:
- Is momentum in the anaerobic digestion (AD) market building, or are barriers emerging?
- What does the closure of the Green Gas Support Scheme mean for the sector?
- Are Feed-in Tariff (FIT)-supported plants viable beyond the end of their support periods?
- Is carbon accounting an opportunity or an administrative burden?
- How are feedstock strategies evolving in response to market pressures?
- What is required from government and investors to enable sector-wide growth?
Dr Mottram outlines ADBA’s policy perspective on these challenges and opportunities, highlighting the Association’s advocacy for a stable regulatory framework and greater support for anaerobic digestion’s contribution to net zero, resource efficiency and energy security.
