MEMBER PRESS RELEASE – Generate Upcycle’s 2025 Impact & Insights Report Highlights Global Sustainability Impact, Key Infrastructure Investments
Sept. 10, 2025 – Generate Upcycle, a global leader in circular waste management and the largest producer of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) from food waste in North America, this week released it’s 2025 Impact & Insights Report, highlighting its achievements from the past year, while outlining its vision for the future.
Key Highlights from 2024–2025
- Renewable Energy Production: Upcycle generated 107 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity and produced 490,000 gigajoules of RNG.
- Expanding Renewable Energy Capacity: By year-end 2025, Upcycle will have nearly doubled its energy production capacity compared to early-2024 through major infrastructure investments in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. By 2026, Upcycle will produce enough energy to power a U.S. city the size of Albany, New York.
- Circular Waste Solutions: Across three countries, Upcycle recycled 1.1 million tons of organic waste, produced 857,000 cubic yards of compost, soil, and mulch–enough to fill 260 Olympic swimming pools.
- Global Climate Impact: Upcycle’s activities in 2024 avoided the emissions equivalent of 1.1 billion miles of passenger car travel.
Infrastructure Investments Driving Growth
In 2024, Upcycle launched major infrastructure projects designed to expand processing capacity, boost renewable natural gas (RNG) output, and strengthen environmental performance.
These included five RNG production and conversion projects at anaerobic digesters in the UK (Fernbrook), Canada (London), and the U.S. (Cayuga, Buffalo, Niagara), and enhancements at composting sites in the U.S. (Vero Beach, Salinas).
Once complete, Upcycle will produce nearly 1.5 million GJ of RNG annually, displacing fossil fuels and significantly contributing to decarbonized energy supplies.
