MEMBER’S PRESS RELEASE: Food waste – fuelling our future (Puregas Solutions)

Despite some very challenging conditions and sub-zero temperatures(!), Puregas Solutions has just completed the installation and commissioning of a CApure CA30 biogas upgrading plant in Forsbacka, 200km north of Stockholm, Sweden.

Linda Kraft, Project Manager for Puregas Solutions, explains:

Because the upgrading plant undergoes a comprehensive Factory Acceptance Test, any remedial actions necessary can be performed in the workshop prior to shipping. This means that we only need to focus on the mechanical and electrical installation on site, safe in the knowledge that the process is stable and the plant is ready to go.

The anaerobic digestion (AD) plant in the north of Sweden will convert around 30,000 tonnes of locally sourced domestic and commercial food waste into 650Nm3/h of raw biogas. The AD plant, one of the largest of its kind in Scandinavia, will use a dry fermentation process. Here, the high solids substrates remain static during the fermentation process, reducing the need for internal mixers and agitation and reducing power consumption and the potential for breakdowns.

The upgraded biomethane will be compressed to 250barg; the bio-CNG will then be used to fuel vehicles locally, and transported to remote filling stations via trailers.

The digestate will be used by local farmers as part of a certified ecological fertilizer programme.
