MEMBER’S PRESS RELEASE: Muntons project on the shortlist for another energy industry award

Following their win at the ADBA Industry awards, the Anaerobic Digester (AD) plant at Muntons has been shortlisted as Industrial Project of the year for demonstrating excellence in low carbon and renewable energy generation by the Association of Decentralised Energy (ADE). Muntons are manufacturers of malt and malted ingredients and are based in Stowmarket, Suffolk.

The AD project was nominated by industry partners ENER-G who provide high efficiency ‘Combined Heat and Power’ (CHP) technology. The 499kW system supplies 11% of Muntons electrical baseload, providing significant cost and carbon savings.  The heat generated is used to pasteurize high quality biofertiliser – the residue from the AD process and is used on local agricultural land, creating a circular economy.  More recently tests have suggested that the plant could potentially provide a new source of antibiotics that kills multi-drug resistant E.coli.

Ryland Cairns, Environment Manager for Muntons stated:

I am thrilled that the ENER-G and Muntons team are receiving further industry recognition; it speaks volumes for the quality of the concept, the quality of the AD Plant and the quality of the CHP technology. We are proud to be working alongside another organisation that values the importance of research and innovation to develop greener products and services.

The award winners will be announced at The Heat Conference on 23 November 2016 in the Grand Connaught Rooms, London.
