ReFuels sees 15% upturn in UK biomethane refuelling for HGVs
ReFuels’ biomethane sales to the UK road haulage network rose 15% on the year to 5,217 mt in August.
The Dutch renewable gas supplier said the double-digit increase in fuel supplies to heavy goods vehicles – up from 4,539 mt in August 2024 – had come despite a seasonally slower month in the UK due to the holiday period.
“Nearly 2,100 HGVs refuelled across the CNG Fuels station network daily, and more than 100 of these were the new, larger 6×2 axle-configured trucks, which are now entering the market as the truck OEMs deliver on their fast-growing order books,” ReFuels CEO Philip Fjeld said.
“These trucks will be a significant growth driver as we execute on our plan to double refuelling capacity to 20,000 vehicles per day by the end of 2028.”
Demand for biomethane in the heavy goods vehicles sector has grown in recent years, supported by corporate and national emissions reduction targets. The supplier saw an average of 2,080 vehicles refuelled at its stations in August, a rise of 18% compared to 1,765 vehicles over the same period in 2024.
ReFuels currently operates 16 public access bio-CNG stations on major UK trucking routes, up from 14 stations in 2024, and is developing two new sites in South Wales and Swindon.
