Ricardo-AEA to speak at major anaerobic digestion event

UK AD & BIOGAS NEWS

Brian Mayne, Regional Director (Wales) at Ricardo-AEA, will be attending the forthcoming UK AD & Biogas 2014 conference and presenting his paper on ‘The delivery of anaerobic digestion in Wales’.

The annual event – organised by ADBA – is focussed solely on anaerobic digestion and biogas and is the only tradeshow of its kind in the UK. This year’s conference will be held on 2-3 July at the NEC Birmingham.

Brian Mayne will be presenting his paper at 11am on 2 July. His talk will explore how to get food waste collection and treatment right and will draw upon the significant evidence base of anaerobic digestion facilities in Wales.

Wales has issued advice and revenue support that has enabled Welsh Local Authorities to develop collaborative procurement hubs. Brian Mayne’s paper looks at the policy background, procurement processes, challenges and opportunities involved in this scheme and highlights lessons that will help enable the successful implementation of AD technologies elsewhere.

Anaerobic digestion is at the core of the UK government’s waste policy and significant financial support is available to develop new renewable energy solutions, with AD being considered a win-win option as its treats food waste and produces clean energy.

Brian Mayne said:

It’s important that the lesson learned from the procurement process which has started to put AD plants on the ground in Wales is shared with as wide an audience as possible. Issues from collection of food waste, to its treatment and right through to finding suitable markets for facility outputs all need to be considered.

I’m proud to say that Ricardo-AEA is at the forefront of providing support to the development of AD not only in Wales, but throughout the UK through activities such as developing guidance documents on food waste collection systems, creating communication campaigns, preparing contract documents for the public sector to procure plants right through to providing investors and developers with expert regulatory and technical reviews for business cases and due diligence exercises.
