World Bank adviser to speak at UK AD & Biogas and World Biogas Expo 2017

World Bank adviser on agricultural risks and markets Marc Sadler will give a keynote address at UK AD & Biogas and World Biogas Expo 2017, the #1 global tradeshow for biogas, at the NEC in Birmingham on 5 July 2017.

Mr Sadler, who regularly advises governments and supply-chain stakeholders on commodity markets, finance, logistics, trading, and risk management, will speak about how anaerobic digestion (AD) and biogas can help to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Before joining the World Bank in 2008, Mr Sadler spent six years as a consultant for the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN in Central Asia, the Caucasus and Turkey.

With the potential global biogas market estimated at £1trn and energy security, climate change and the UN SDGs driving the need to rapidly increase the uptake of biogas, the World Biogas Association (WBA) has partnered with ADBA to showcase the global biogas industry at ADBA’s leading AD & Biogas tradeshow, which last year was attended by participants from over 50 countries.

UK AD & Biogas and World Biogas Expo 2017 will take place on the 5-6 July at the NEC in Birmingham and will be the show’s seventh consecutive year. The show will feature a presentation by Dr Sarika Jain, Research and Policy Manager at the WBA, who will present her report on the contribution of AD and biogas towards achieving the UN SDGs. The full programme for the show can be seen here.

Mr Sadler described the importance of biogas globally:

Anaerobic digestion and biogas have a key role to play in helping to meet the UN SDGs and global climate-change targets. Biogas not only generates low-carbon energy and biofertiliser, it also reduces harmful methane emissions from food and farming wastes, increases food and energy security, improves waste management and sanitation, and reduces poverty and hunger.

The show will also include a delegation from Oman Environmental Services Holding Company S.A.O.C (more commonly known as ‘be’ah’), who are responsible for solid waste management in the Sultanate of Oman.

Fahad Al- Kharous, Head of Business Development at be’ah, said:

At be’ah we see the huge potential that anaerobic digestion has to help support sustainable waste management and improve the environment. More and more countries around the world are waking up to the benefits offered by effective management of resources and the circular economy.

We’re very much looking forward to attending UK AD & Biogas and World Biogas Expo 2017 to share experiences and ideas of how biogas can support countries like Oman with like-minded professionals from around the world.
