MEMBER PRESS RELEASE – ADBA member supplies gas analyser to support new NHS Nightingale Hospital

The new NHS Nightingale Hospital recently opened in Harrogate has deployed QED Environmental Systems’ Geotech G210 gas analyser, supplied by Bedfont Scientific to validate the piped medical gas and test the oxygen levels in ventilators.

The NHS Nightingale Hospital officially opened on 21st April in Harrogate and built into the Harrogate Convention Centre in response to the increase in COVID-19 across the nation. With an additional 500 beds set up for Coronavirus patients, the Geotech G210 was instrumental with the setting up process of the project.

The Geotech G210, which is part of Bedfont’s Medi-gas check range is manufactured by QED Environmental Systems. It’s portable and user-friendly operation helps for quick verification of the quality of oxygen in ventilators, and measure piped gas levels for N2O, CO2, O2 and CO.

Paul Gooch, Global Sales & Marketing Director at QED shared his thoughts on the G-Series being used on the frontline. ”It’s great that the Geotech G210 analyser has been recognised by the NHS as an essential instrument for measuring medical gases, this can help save more lives.”

Being recognised for its efficiency with testing medical air and oxygen, Pharmacy QC Team Manager, Charlotte Cleveland explains why this is a beneficial tool for the NHS during this current climate. “Having the correct quality and quantity of piped medical gas is a matter for safety for both patients and healthcare providers and the Geotech G210 provided us with an easy and precise method to verify the quality of these gases efficiently.”

The Geotech G210 helped set up 500 additional ICU beds at the NHS Nightingale Hospital in Harrogate, Cleveland also goes onto explain that timing was an important factor, especially with the rapid spread of the virus. “We’ve had to respond quickly to the situation at hand, but the safe and proper establishment of these temporary hospitals is our utmost concern.”
