Following the Cassington AD plant lightning strike incident last October, ADBA has issued guidance notes…
Biomethane specification – automotive fuel or injected into the gas grids
I am, on the behalf of ADBA, member of the following technical committees within the British Standards Institution:
- TC408 “Natural gas and biomethane for use in transport and biomethane for injection in the natural gas grid”
- TC255 “Biogas” with the following working groups:
- WG1: “Terms, definitions and classification scheme for the production, conditioning and utilization of biogas”
- WG2: “Flares for biogas plants”
- WG3: “Domestic biogas installations (household and small farm scale)
- WG4: “Safety and environmental aspects”
- WG5: “ Biogas systems – non-household”
- PTI/15 “Natural gas and gas analysis”
We are currently working on the revision of EN17623 norms “Natural gas and biomethane for use in transport and biomethane for injection in the natural gas network”, part 1 being “Specifications for biomethane for injection in the natural gas network” and part 2 being “Automotive fuels specification”.
The revision process includes the revision of the form (for example merging the 2 norms) and the content. Therefore, we would really value your input regarding the specification limits that you would find appropriate for the UK market. Indeed, your feedback and your experience in the industry would be really beneficial. I would also like to know if you currently use these norms for the UK market.
You can answer for one or both of the following biomethane uses : as fuel (CNG/LNG) and/or biomethane injected in the gas grids.
If you want to express your views, please send me an email (charlotte.marcel@adbioresources.org) and I will be able to send you an excel file comparing the current specification limits for each compound (see extract of the title columns below), and you will be able to feed into it.
Your analyse of ANG technologies and if revised norms should include space for these technologies are also welcome.
