Welcome to the latest issue of AD & Bioresources News and *new* AD & Biogas News International

As recognition grows around the world of the AD industry’s ability to address increasingly pressing issues surrounding energy security, climate change, food security, wastewater and sanitation, this issue sees the launch of our international publication “AD & Biogas News International”.

We are all proud to work in an industry that delivers so much value. Already delivering more green energy than one of the UK’s retiring coal plants, together with all our additional benefits, we have plenty more potential – but why stop there? We at ADBA can see huge opportunities for the AD industry around the world, and so are now widening our remit to encompass those global biogas markets, to help accelerate the industry’s global growth. But we can’t do it alone. We are looking to work in partnership with other trade associations representing AD around the world, and our members, to promote the industry and identify opportunities to help build the global AD market.  Our new publication will cover these opportunities, including news and examples of AD plants around the world, market overviews – this time “The view from Canada”, and views and case studies from our members – in this issue “Dry AD in Germany”.

Our annual trade show, UK AD & Biogas 2016 (6-7 July, NEC Birmingham, UK), has always attracted visitors and exhibitors from overseas – indeed, last year 32 countries were represented. So this year, for the first time in its history, UK AD & Biogas will also have a global remit, looking at what’s happening not just in the UK but around the world, demonstrating the diverse and innovative ways in which AD is helping to solve waste, soil and energy issues right across the globe. We will be welcoming more international visitors than ever before – including delegations from regions which are fast becoming AD hotspots – and featuring a greater number of global exhibitors. We hope that you will join us. Read all about the upcoming trade show on page 1 of AD & Biogas News International and pages 14-15 of the main magazine.

We are also continuing our efforts to support the AD industry here in the UK, with our Best Practice Scheme developing apace. Our regular publication, “AD & Bioresources News”, is as jam-packed as ever with useful information about the industry and ADBA’s activities. Our feature (p8-13) focuses on the food and drink industry and how it can reduce waste and maximise the potential of unavoidable waste through AD. In this issue I also discuss the value of research and innovation for a thriving global AD sector (p4) in light of our upcoming R&I forum (6-7 April, University of York). If you have not yet booked you ticket, please do so by contacting Nicolle Oshinowo, nicolle.oshinowo@adbioresources.org, (+44) 020 3176 5417.
