Prism Planning scores hat-trick in single planning committee
ADBA MEMBER PRESS RELEASE
North East planning consultancy Prism Planning is celebrating after securing three separate planning applications in one sitting.
Managing director and planning consultant Steve Barker was at Hambleton District Council’s planning committee on Thursday as two planning applications for anaerobic digestion (AD) plants and a third for an agricultural building to house pigs approved.
The AD plants success takes the number of approvals of farm-based facilities for Prism Planning to five, with more expected in the coming months.
Steve Barker said:
Naturally we are absolutely delighted with the outcome of the planning committee.
To get an application approved is always a great feeling, but to have the green light for three in the same afternoon, in the same planning committee, is a job well done – by everyone concerned.
Prism Planning has been making waves in planning committees and appeal hearings across the north of England as advisors sought to achieve approval at the first time of asking, or to overturn a refusal. The Darlington-based practice is also becoming increasingly regarded as the ‘go-to consultancy’ for agricultural landowners who need planning advisors with an understanding of farm-based planning matters and experience of securing permissions.
The applications approved include a 500 kW AD plant at Westholme Farm near Dalton, south of Thirsk, for applicants JFS Westholme Biogas Ltd, and one from the 283 ha Home Farm at Newby Wiske – one for a 200 kW AD plant for JFS Home Farm Biogas Ltd – both of which were recommended for approval.
The third application, from farmer Peter Richardson, of Home Farm, was for a piggery building to accommodate approximately 500 young pigs for fattening. The committee was told that the proposed piggery building would be associated with the biogas power plan application, with farmyard manure resultant from the operation of the piggeries would form one element of the feedstock to the AD facility.
The approvals reinforcing the practice’s position as one of the region’s leading experts in agricultural planning issues.
Steve Barker of Prism Planning led the applications, and added:
These AD plants take our success rate to five, with a sixth pending and a number of others being prepared for planning submission.
